— Unbroken Dreams

Restoring Hope, Transforming Lives

Unbroken Dreams, Inc. is organized exclusively to receive and administer funds and property for charitable, educational, religious, and literary purposes as contemplated by Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue code of 1986, specifically to raise funds to provide housing, employment, and essentials for homeless citizens in the state of Florida who demonstrate appropriate need and related non-profit purposes qualifying as tax-exempt under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue code and for which corporations may be organized under the Florida Not For Profit Corporation Act.

Our Dream

We believe people have a difficult time integrating into society after incarceration or trauma if they do not have the basic essentials of life: a home, a job, and a feeling of community. They are in desperate need of housing as well as life skills to empower them to self-sufficiency. They will also benefit from numerous complementary supportive services, including life coaching, financial coaching, and soft skills instruction. Our goal is to empower them to self-sufficiency by providing a program that will provide the necessary tools to assist them in their journey.

In the short term, we intend to purchase properties that have been abandoned and provide our users with the skills and jobs, such as carpentry, flooring, electrical, HVAC, landscaping, etc. to renovate the properties so our users have a place to call home. Ideal properties would be close to bus lines, grocery stores, drug stores, and general shopping as we do not anticipate most of our residents will have vehicles.

In the long term, we will have approximately 20 acres of land in which to build our Dream Campus. The main building will be a fully furnished transitional home with 4-8 bedrooms and a common living area for group meetings; this building will house between 8-16 participants who are in Level One. We will also have fully furnished “tiny homes” and mobile homes as well as furnished and unfurnished one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartments and single-family homes for families; these will house our Level Two, Three, and Four participants. The community will be divided into sections; each section will have a house manager, who will live at the houses to ensure overall cleanliness, check on participants, and care for routine maintenance.

Our Process

Participants will work with the case manager to obtain essential documents such as social security cards, birth certificates, and state identifications; apply for food stamps or public assistance; connect with our partners to get any medical needs addressed and launder their clothing. Additionally, as necessary, we will provide bus passes and clothing vouchers so they can purchase new clothing and shoes for themselves. Participants will also meet with our Employment Manager to develop a plan of action for finding stable employment. They will obtain career coaching such as resume creation, job interview skills, and hiring and online job application guidance. They will be assisted with job resources cultivated by Unbroken Dreams. Once they have employment, they will have ongoing networking and continual support throughout their work experience.

Unbroken Dreams will prove to be an asset to Hillsborough County by providing much needed support for people in need, allowing them the opportunity to become successful and productive members of society. It is estimated that it will take 5-7 years for the full program to be in place; however, we believe that we will help people along the way, and we will be a great resource for the community.

Unbroken Dreams not only provides life-changing benefits for people experiencing homelessness and people previously incarcerated but also makes a direct impact on the health and vitality of the local community. We give people who are not making an income a chance to learn valuable skills that can change their lives by providing a means of making income. The higher the income that is earned, the more taxes that are paid to the community, which will benefit others because it will help raise funds for infrastructure, schools, and other important programs to assist those in need. Additionally, people who have their fundamental needs of housing and jobs taken care of are less likely to get in trouble with the law, which decreases crime and recidivism in the community. In turn, Hillsborough County is a safer and happier place to live for all of us.
